The tables are created using the 'majolica' technique that has been handed down through the centuries from one Italian master craftsman to another. Each table is carved by hand from a carefully selected block of volcanic stone to achieve the required shape and size. It is then fired in a kiln after which the surface is carefully inspected and any imperfections removed. A glaze is then applied to ensure a perfect base for the painted design and the stone is fired a second time. Lastly, the design is painted onto the surface and a clear coat of glaze applied before the table is fired for the third and final time.
